The Educators’ Toolbox – Fundamentals of Teaching Online

Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in education is not only raising the demand for ICT specialist and generic skills, it is also changing the way educators carry out lessons remotely, thus raising the demand for ICT-complementary skills. These are skills related to the capability to carry out lessons within online learning contexts shaped by ICTs. This short course will allow educators who are new to online teaching to acquire fundamental skills to lead “technology-rich learning” in a digital world through hands-on exploration of recommended e-platforms and tools to make their e-classrooms smoother and more polished.

This course aims for learners to be able to:

  1. Educators’ need for knowledge and awareness of a range of e-learning platforms and tools they can adopt in their remote classrooms

  2. Educators’ fundamental digital skills and competencies in using the features of these e-learning platforms and tools

  3. Educators’ effective engagement of all learners in a remote classroom

The course runs for a total of 9 hours, conducted in blocks of 3-hour bite-sized lessons, over 3 evenings – suitable for day-packed educators.
 

2. What are the course fees? Is there any additional charge on top of the course fees?

The course fees are $183.60, fully claimable from SkillsFuture Credit (SFC). However, a registration fee of $10.80 (non-SFC deductible) applies to each participant. All fees quoted are inclusive of 8% GST.
 

3. Is the course conducted online?
Yes, the course is fully conducted online via Zoom.

Yes, the course is suitable for tutors who wish to learn the basics of how they can move their physical tuition classes online.
 

6. Does the course help educators improve curriculum and address learning needs?

This course does not equip learners with pedagogy for curriculum planning and assessment of learning needs. Instead, it focuses on basic digital platforms and tools educators should be familiar with to be able to conduct online classes for their own students or enhance their physical lessons with digital experiences for their own students.
 

7. Is there any exam or assessment at the end of the course?

No, there is no exam or assessment in the course. However, learners are encouraged to participate actively during lessons to maximize collaborative learning.
